Practicum Artifacts
Classroom Practice in Action
These artifacts capture instructional choices, student responses, and the reflective process that shaped
my practicum teaching experience.
Artifact 1: Domino Number Matching
Rationale: Students matched dot dominoes to numeral dominoes to represent numbers in different forms. The task let me assess counting strategies in real time. Some students counted each side first, while others quickly combined totals. Observing these approaches helped me plan next-step number talks.
Artifact 2: Fingerprint Holiday Wreath
Rationale: For a family holiday gift, we made classroom wreaths with student fingerprints as lights. I introduced the idea, organized materials, and managed the process over several days. The project supported fine motor development and gave each student a meaningful take-home piece.
Artifact 3: Story Retelling and Sequencing
Rationale: In small-group instruction, students completed a sequencing sheet after our whole-group reading of The Mitten. They cut, ordered, and glued events, then retold the story using transition words. The activity assessed comprehension while also giving evidence of fine motor skills, name writing, and task stamina.
Artifact 4: Fine Motor Whiteboard Tracing
Rationale: This whiteboard tracing task targeted fine motor control and writing fluency. One student worked carefully but took much longer than peers. I also observed hand-switching with no clear dominant hand. I documented the pattern for ongoing monitoring and support.
